They've released iPhone/iPod Touch 3.1.3 and so far are still signing 3.1.2 (as of 2/2/10). This doesn't mean that tomorrow (2/3/10) they'll continue signing 3.1.2 shsh requests. We're getting close to another drought. We've been surviving in 'years of plenty' and the 'years of want' are coming.
Ok all biblical analogies aside. 3.1.3 firmware offers zero substantial value. All it does is close the holes that enabled 3.1.2 to be jailbroken. Please, warn your friends, neighbors anyone that will listen. Have them save their shsh on Cydia or if they have even a remote amount of technical savvy, download the firmware umbrella and save their own shsh files locally.
3.1.2's days are numbered... This is probably the best we'll have it for a very long time. (My guess is late summer if any 4.0 potential exploits survive...)
Incidentally, I'll have Umbrella/TinyTSS updated for 3.1.3 signatures soon. I'm in no hurry as 3.1.3 is worthless...
*DO NOT UPDATE TO 3.1.3 IF YOU HAVE ANY DESIRES OR NEAR-FUTURE DESIRES TO JAILBREAK*
(Even if you have your shsh saved, I still wouldn't mess with it...)
*UPDATE: If I'm not mistaken, 3.1.3 also has the added bonus of updating your baseband to 05.12.01.
This is HUGELY bad for folks relying on having an unlocked iPhone. This means that even if you have your shsh saved on Cydia or locally, there is nothing you can do to get your baseband back to an unlockable version if you update to 3.1.3 out of curiosity.
Got a quick question. I have already saved my 3.1.2 SHSH file for my 3GS and I have started TinyTSS and pointed my hosts file to 127.0.0.1 Everything checks out OK when I ping from the command prompt etc. When I try to restore in iTunes everything shows good in the TinyTSS window, iTunes shows that it is verifying the restore and then I hear my computer make the DEVICE UNPLUGGED sound and that's it. After sitting there for a little while longer iTunes eventually fails resulting in a ERROR 1601. It doesn't even get past the verifying restore etc.
ReplyDeleteLike I said though I can hear my computer make the DEVICE UNPLUGGED sound just as if I were to unplug my phone from the computer but then it doesn't connect back. I have tried Two different computers and 4 different versions of iTunes as well as one computer on XP and one on Windows 7. Both do the EXACT same thing.
Any ideas?
One thing I forgot to mention is that if I point my hosts file to Sauriks server then iTunes restores my 3GS just fine. Only when I try to do a restore with the SHSH being served up locally via TinyTSS does it fail as described above.
ReplyDeleteDANG!! I get my new ipt3 friday, and although it will come shipped with 3.1.2, I didn't get any chance to get my SHSH blobs...
ReplyDeleteDo you think they'll still sign it by friday?
@Xenon - Are you in DFU mode when you are trying to restore? If you are, try getting out of DFU mode and trying again.
ReplyDeleteIf that doesn't work, check out the google results I found looking at 1601/1602 errors.
@Freddy - I have no way of knowing. They stopped signing 3.0.1 shsh blobs within 2 days of releasing 3.1...
ReplyDelete@The Firmware Umbrella, I have tried DFU mode, Recovery Mode, restoring while the phone is already booted into the OS, NOTHING is working. I really would like to get this working seeing as how Crapple has STOPPED signing 3.1.2 FW and I really would rather just use my own stuff rather than have to rely on Sauriks server.
ReplyDeleteIs there ANYTHING else you can think of that I can try? I spent over 4 hours trying anything and everything last night. I even tried using your tinytss jar file on a MAC and it did the EXACT SAME THING. I will try to make a Video and show you exactly what it's doing.
OK I have spoke with others who are experiencing either the same issue or similar issues relating to using TinyTSS. Have you even bothered to test your own software? There doesn't seem to be much help coming from this blog, what's the deal?
ReplyDeleteWell your new version of TinyTSS has RESOLVED THE ISSUE! Thank You for the update and sorry if my responses came off as being a dick but I just kinda felt like I was getting n00bish replies when in reality I been doing this since way back when the original iPhone came out =)
ReplyDeletePS: I am sure you already know but Umbrella v219 is having some issues. I can't even open it up on Win7 x32 or WinXP x32, I keep getting a Startup Error...
